Everyone remember the Avengers Helicarrier? Of course you do, it was one of this years most exciting visual apperances featured in the latest Avengers Film. This beauty stunned the world with its fantastic design, gorgeous apperance and its sheer dominance on-screen.

Well Matthew Mainwaring has done the next best thing. Matthew has successfully designed and created the Avengers Helicarrier within the popular arcade game Minecraft. Although he was not alone in this endeavour, he was joined by Mark Kearney (troopermatthew) and Fergus Mannix (TheMadman697). The following images were taken by John Foley (LaughorLament).

"I designed it (By design I worked out how it could be translated from film to blocks!) and then me and a team of people (mainly from the UK and Ireland) made it over the course of about 2 1/2 months. We pretty much started the day The Avengers was released over here. We are just trying to get people of aware of it now and show it off a little. It has been an exhausting project!" - Matthew Mainwaring

The entire project has taken the team over 2 months to complete but the final result is brilliant. Minecraft projects aren't new, as thousands of players all over the world have been putting their creative ability to the test by making castles, skyscrapers and virtual playgrounds for other gamers. However Matthew has really excelled and pushed the boundaries of Minecraft to its limits. This is by far one of the most inspiring minecraft projects we have ever seen.

The Helicarrier has both an exterior and interior, which means the aircraft is fully explorable and features all of the rooms which were featured in the film and more!

I asked Matthew what inspired him to start the project and he had this to say :

"Well I had just come back from seeing the Avengers and wanted to do something to express my love for it. Being an avid fan of Minecraft I decided to build something from it. At first we thought Stark Tower but then skyscrapers get a bit monotonous. Then I thought well why not do the Helicarrier, its got a lot of straight lines which cater well to Minecraft, but at the same time, has all these complex layers and details which can make it challenging. I made one of the engines to see if it was actually possible and when it was completed we just new we had to continue building the whole thing!" - Matthew Mainwaring
