Today boys, and girls, ladies and gentlemen we're going to be talking - Sonic The Hedgehog! This daredevil rodent is well known as being a lone wolf who lives as he wants, he needs no other partner to keep him happy. Yes, he has taken Tails under his wings as a little brother but has constantly rejected offers of romance from the adorable Amy Rose. This warrior of the forest despises oppression and protects the idea of freedom and happiness. Although short tempered and lacking patience for most things which are slow, he is still loyal to his friends and his responsibility in times of crisis.

With all these advantages he possesses only one weakness, he is unable to swim. Instead he simply runs along the surface under water until he finds oxygen. To end the flurry of characteristics which this hedgehog possesses , he also has the ability to go faster than the SPEED OF SOUND! That final quality is what makes Sonic the 'Fairest Hedgehog Of Them All'

Sonic has done it all, from beating Dr. Robotnik ( Dr. Eggman ) countless times, turning into a werewolf hedgehog, rescuing King Arthur, and to saving the world in the face of obliteration many, many times. While being world protector he also has managed to take the time in entering friendly competitions with his friends and enemies. I will focus on the more recent ones over the course of this article to prove my point.

Speed of Sound

But before I continue first things first, lets discuss the 'Speed Of Sound'. The statement following is the Wiki description of the speed of sound.

"The speed of sound is the distance travelled during a unit of time by a sound wave propagating through an elastic medium. So our blue haired friend, if what SEGA say is true about Sonic, has the ability to travel as fast as the speed of sound if not faster. This would mean that Sonic can rival the speed of the F-22 Raptor aircraft, that is an impressive feat for a hedgehog of any standard. Mr Sonic, we salute you! Anyway moving on with the article.

Super Smash Bros Brawl

During the year 2008, Sonic was dragged into the Super Smash Bros tournament, there he was contested against the most fiercest gaming icons of today. That's right, the likes of Kirby; Mario; Pikachu; Link wanted his hide skinned just to better themselves in a fictional tournament. Sonic obviously innocent in this whole ordeal had no choice but to fight back, and fight back he did!

During the bloodthirsty campaign of death and destruction he fought valiantly, and at no moment did he ever use his 'Super Speed' to his advantage. Yes he rolled around in a ball, but he never used his "faster than sound speed". Maybe he liked the challenge, maybe he enjoyed giving Pikachu a black eye, who knows.

Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games & Winter Olympics & London Olympics

The Olympics are a proud time for any patriotic person in the world. Sonic was entered in the Beijing Olympics against his arch nemesis Mario. What resulted was a series of physical and mentally crushing events in which Sonic had to partake in. Yes he had the likes of Tails and Dr Robotnik to help him out, but again during this entire event, and all of the following games never once did Sonic utilize his 'Super Sonic Speed'. He raced fairly against the other contestants one example being the fat Italian plumber. Why didn't Sonic run faster? Why did he give the fat plumber a chance? Why is tails so pants in most events? We will never know or understand this great mystery plaguing the gaming world.

Sonic And Sega All Stars Sonic Racing & Transformed

In the more recent of Sonics racing career he has dropped running for racing. This is something which is not new to sonic as earlier games such as 'Sonic Drift' saw the hedgehog ripping up the tracks in Go Karts. This time though he is more at home, only racing with opponents from his own games, but again, come on Sonic. You are the FASTEST hedgehog around, why not just simply step out of that car and run the rest of the way. You have the ability so why don't you use it?

Okay admittedly Sonic And Sega All Stars Transformed features the speedy rodent take to the oceans and the skies above in racing machines which can transform. I can see how the flying can be an issue especially flying over large areas of water, but still the fact remains that throughout all of Sonics previous games he has been fair. He has never once cheated by simply using the speed in which was gifted to him.

The only conclusion that I can come to is that Sonic no longer needs to prove himself. I mean the dude has saved the world, for that we must be thankful. Maybe in the eyes of the press he no longer needs to show his prowess and abilities. In 2004, Sonic won a Golden Joystick award for being the most popular gaming hero. Since then MSN held a poll for the world to vote on who was the most iconic video game character. The results of that poll were that Sonic was #1 in the world, beating the likes of Mario and Lara Croft. With the world on his side he is the most popular hedgehog around, he has no reason to prove his speed anymore. Though he could easily wipe the floor with any opponent in all competitions he simply doesn't because he is true, he is fair and that is the reason why we love him so.
