Over the years games have always graced influence from other games to better their design and product. It's part of the learning and the creative process for most things be that music, art, product design, movies and much more. With the recent Infinite Warfare E3 footage soaring the web we can't help but notice a similarity in their proposed product and Battlefield 2142's Titan mode.
Activision and Infinity Ward have recently revealed an E3 Trailer which can be seen below. Within that trailer features a breathtaking amount of visual footage which looks insane and has fired up some high anticipation. During the you take part in an galactic boarding part of a cruiser in which you eject from your fighter and continue to rough up some baddies fighting alongside the hull of the ship. Eventually you pierce the hull, kill all the baddies, plant some explosives and dish out before you're caught in the blast. This all showcases an incredible amount of gameplay and a game which promises some never before seen feats.
The battlefield series has long developed the large scale FPS shooter which has over the years always included the use of vehicles, aerial units, artillery and large scale combat. Battlefield 2142, sequel to the highly popular Battlefield 2 was set in the future in which plasma grenades, rail guns, mechs, hovercraft and more was the norm. The game boasted an exciting and unique multiplayer experience especially with the introduction of 'Titan Mode'
Titan mode was a game type in which each team had a Titan which reigned supreme over the maps which could also be maneuvered and used to fight back with on-board turrets. The titans are shielded so you must push certain capture points to disable the shields. Once disabled you would have the ability to board the Titan in a numerous amount of ways.
You could simply fly onto the titan using another vehicle or some vehicles had the ability to launch troops onto the Titan in a 'Halo-Esque' ascent of awesomeness. The thrill that you had from jumping with your squad onto this behemoth was insane. Once on board you would have to fight your way through narrow corridors and open arenas to access the control room in which you had to sabotage the titan. Once the control panels took enough damage alarms would ring signifying the death of the Titan. Plays had a small amount of time to fight their way off and jump to safety.
Now I'm not saying this style of gameplay is truly unique and that Battlefield have broken 'newground' territory here. I am also not saying that Infinite Warfare have in anyway ripped off Battlefield 2142. I am merely speculating how much the developers are inspired by each other to better themselves but not only that. Possibly show other developers how it could be done better for the future generations.
The Battlefield series and Call of Duty franchise have pushed First Person Shooters to places in which young Doom players never thought they would go. I would hope that they continue to inspire each other and now with the release of potential cross platform play and VR headsets the future is indeed a bright and action packed one!
